Sandra and I were best friends from the second grade until her death. We used to spend the night at each other's house all of the time, go to the movies, play bridge (or what we called bridge), go swimming, climb trees (She was the only one besides me who really liked to climb.), make paper dolls and clothes for them (We thought we would be dress designers.), and boy oh boy, did we have fun. She loved a good joke and always kept me laughing. We both pledged Theta - she at Texas and me at Randolph-Macon. We were both active in the Junior League - she in Waco and me in Beaumont. She was General Chairman of the Cotton Palace in Waco and I was Social Chairman of the Neches River Festival in Beaumont. We each had a boy and a girl (in that order). We had the greatest husbands in the world. Although we never lived in the same town again, I would visit Sandra when I was in Waco. We could always pick up in the middle of a sentence from the time before. We solved the problems of our families and the world. She was a great part of my life and I will miss her every day.
This was cut out of our 1948 graduating class from West Junior. We both had flowers in our hair, although my hair was really too short to hold a flower very well.
This was part of a group picture in the 1951 Waco High Annual. Looks as though we are dressed just alike. (I think that I tended to copy Sandra much more than she copied me!)
This is her Senior picture.
She was one of my bridesmaids at our wedding on May 29, 1954.
This was taken at our High School 50 year reunion in 2001. We stayed with Sandra and Herman and had such a great visit.

Does this look like someone retired? (Note papers and phone at hand.) Don't think that Herman ever did really retire!
This was taken the last of April 2004, the last time that I saw her. She looked pretty as always, but she was having lots of fluid problems. Fortunately, those seemed to clear up for a good while. Her birthday was April 4 and mine is May 3. I teased her that she was 70 and that I was still in my 60's. (We went to the movie when she had turned 13 and I was still 12. Although she was shorter than I and looked much younger, she marched up to the window and said "One Adult, please." I was so hacked to have to say "One Child". Later on, she would say that she was really much younger than I because her children and grandchildren were younger than mine!) Bet she has Saint Peter laughing right now.
