San Antonio
July 2007

Our first stop is the San Antonio Zoo in Brackenridge Park. Here is John and a zebra. They are dressed alike. Are they white on black or black on white?

Nancy also matches the zebra.

Who are these people who are copying me?

Lots of pretty birds...

The tiger was awake and watching us. We're glad he is in a large habitat and can't get out!

The giraffe stretches to reach the limb.

The Rhino is getting ready for a bath. One of the zoo keeper is leaning on the fence at the left and is trying to get him to go into the pen.

The elephant is eating straw. He puts it in his mouth with his trunk.

After visiting the zoo and the Witte Museum, we go out to Tim's house. Chelsea is out of town on business and we are sorry to miss her. Tim is sitting on our old couch, which has survived 3 years in the Geoscience Building at A & M and is about 45 years old!

John is sitting in his Granddad's rocking chair, which he gave to Tim. Our old coffee table and Aggie stool are also in use. Tim built the shelving and Chelsea decorated it.

Nanny is in heaven with her number ONE grandson.

Cousin Deb gave Tim her table and chairs and Chelsea bought the animal hanging.

The kitchen is nice and they both enjoy cooking.

We spent Monday night with our friends Liz and John Mulik, who live at Fair Oaks Ranch, a small suburb of San Antonio. The two Johns played golf on Tuesday at their 36 hole golf course at the Country Club. What a treat! Liz and Nancy went into Boerne, shopped, ate and visited. We had a delicious dinner at this Italian Restaurant.

On Wednesday night, Tim came to our hotel room and we went to the River Walk to eat dinner. We stayed at the Comfort Inn near the River Walk. It had been the jail and was a historic building on the National Register. It was quite "comfortable" except there was only one window (the bars had been cut off) and so Nancy felt a little closed in.

Nancy is so happy to be with Tim!

On Thursday, we saw a large screen film on the Inca Indians in the restored Aztec Theatre. It was built in 1928 and this is the original organ. The music played at performances stems from this organ.

This tile is original and is in the area with the ticket booth.

This chandelier is also original.

John visited with one of the volunteers and learned all about the theatre.

A free show is held here in the lobby before every performance. A giant Aztec figure arises from the glass case in the middle.

Although there had been rain most every day, it let up on Thursday and the River Boats were running again, although the river wasn't very clear.

We ate dinner at La Pesca, the same seafood restaurant on the River Walk where we ate 3 years before on our 50th wedding anniversary. Our salmon dish was wonderful.

As we left on Friday morning, we toured the Texas Culture Museum.

The hemisphere is shown behind Nancy.
