John's 80th Birthday Party

We had 60 people at our home to celebrate John's 80th birthday.

As you can see from the colors, we had an Aggie theme. Our daughter Elizabeth and son Tom live in Corpus Christi. (Obviously, that's why we moved here!)

Son in law Jay enjoyed the pool while daughter-in-law, Nancy Jeanne, got to visit with her daughter, our grandsons and guests.
Our family joined us - brother Phil Teeling from Dallas, us, sister-in-law Gloria Teeling, cousins Bob and Sarah Arledge from Dallas and cousins Susie and Bill Holloway from Tulsa.

We also had niece Jennifer Baker from Frisco and nephew and wife, Edie and Austin Cooper, from Fort Worth.

The extended McGovern family: Cousin Steve, Deb and Josh Petro from Round Rock (Stephen couldn't come), grandsons Patrick from Austin, Joe , Tim and wife Chelsea from San Antonio. (Joe's dog, Schnitzell, was the only dog allowed.) Chelsea was our photographer. Look her up at http://chelseamcgovern.com/blog/

Missing were our grandson Andy McGovern from NYC and granddaughter and husband Wendi and Matt Spence. Andy was working and couldn't fly home. Matt and Wendi had just gone to their new home - in Australia! This picture was cropped when Elizabeth and Jay, Joe and Patrick were in NYC to visit Andy and Wendi and Matt came over from Albany, NY.

Elizabeth, with designs from Deb and help from Susie, provided the decorations. We had tables outside on the gazebo, in the Entrance Hall, Living Room, Dining Room and Breakfast Room. There were enough seats for the crowd. The decorations are maroon table clothes and napkins with white runner, maroon and white carnations, favors of maroon and white M & M's in jars and pictures of John's life held by silver stars on every table. Each table had a special theme of his life while the TV had a running slide show.

Our grandson, Patrick, greets people at the door. The boys also parked cars for people. Aren't they great!

Elsa and her assistant handled the kitchen duty. John had bought them the Aggie shirts.

Our friends, Marilyn and Mike Higgins, came in from Beaumont. Marilyn had borrowed the Aggie uniform of our friend, John Pepper, and Mike is decked out with hat and shirt.

Elizabeth ordered this model of a B36, which John flew in the Air Force. This Mobil "flying red horse" lamp was made for John when he retired and the plaque was when he was President of the Boy Scout Council. Since he was also Rotary Club President, a Paul Harris Fellow, United Way President, United Way Campaign Chairman, Aggie contributor, etc., there were many things to display - besides family pictures. On the right, John is showing Marilyn some of the pictures.

John greets each guest. Here is Pat Brower and with all of his UT ties, he is a sport in his hat and maroon shirt!
