Carol and Peg Visit

It wouldn't be a visit without eating at Snoopy's. Nancy, John , Carol and Peg enjoy the fried shrimp and fish - AND - the view!

We visit the Fulton Mansion at Rockport. Peg's maiden name is Fulton and we tried to see if she were kin to these Fultons. The home was built over 3 years, 1874–1877. It had running hot and cold water and a heating system. It had 3 bathrooms, complete with toilets, sinks and bathtubs. Since electricity hadn't been invented, the lighting was by oil. It is truly amazing!

This is the view from the front of the mansion. It has withstood many hurricanes without damage.

We eat lunch in Rockport on the historic Austin Street. This cute Tea Room is called Crazy Rusty's and is an old filing station. The food was great. We had Chicken Salad sandwiches. Even the bread was great.

One of the shops has these wooden, hand carved animals for sale. They are made of various types of wood, but many are from mesquite.

We then continue on past Fulton, over another causeway and finally find the area that has "The Big Tree". It is 1,000 years old and is a Coastal Live Oak. We were amazed at the size and history of the tree and all of the other trees that have grown up from the roots.

This is the entrance to view the big tree, which is surrounded by fencing.

This gives an idea of how the forest has grown up.

Here it is!

Carol and Peg look small compared to the base of the tree.

The next day, we meet Elizabeth for lunch at the Art Museum. The Harbor Bridge is seen in the background.
