San Antonio

We stop by Tim and Chelsea's in San Antonio and give them some venison.

Chelsea gets to hold the horns.

Tim removed the wall between the Dining Room and kitchen. They have a table (the one with a cloth) set up to check out how they want the cabinet/bar to be.

Chelsea painted stripes on the wall and Tim installed Crown Molding around the house.

This is a headboard that they "picked up" beside the road and they made it into a coat rack. Tim made the table and the Tiffany Lamp was going to be thrown away by a neighbor. They love to decorate with handmade or "almost free" things.

They took out a closet and made a Dry Bar. The cabinets match those that Tim built in the Living Room.

The dogs enjoy the sun coming in the window!

Elizabeth and Nancy enjoy food and drink on the River Walk after seeing the play "9 to 5". (it was darling.)

Claire and Marty, who now lives in San Antonio, were with us. Evon Kelly and daughter, Kassie, headed back to Corpus Christi.

Marianne rounded out the crew.

The lights were just beautiful, the weather was nice and there were TONS of people. Fun ... fun!
Hunting at the Ranch

We visited Bob and Eleanor Hoppe at their ranch, near Big Springs, Texas. John killed this 11 point buck.

We drove up to this oil well area and watched the sunset. In the background, you can see the wind turbines. Eleanor's grandfather homestead this land. Who would have ever believed that the oil and gas underground and the wind could be used to generate electricity besides the abundant wildlife.
Thanksgiving

Papa carves the turkey.

Elizabeth cooked for 2 days and Chelsea was her right hand help.

Patrick's girlfriend, Danielle, comes over.

Lucy sits on the back deck and wonders why all the people are inside on this beautiful day. We do take a walk mid afternoon with 5 dogs. Joe's dog, Scnitzel, naps with Joe instead.

The whole McGovern family is home - Elizabeth, Jay, Joe, Andy and Patrick.

After the meal, we watch the Texas - Texas A & M game and A & M won. Probably because there were 4 Aggie graduates and Patrick a freshman at Texas!
Andy's Debut

Andy gets his first job in New York City working as a Production Assistant on the TV realty show, Project Runway. He is on the first row at the left.

There is his credit - Andy McGovern!
Tom's Birthday

We celebrated Tom's birthday at a new Japanese Restaurant.
Our Aggie Girls

These 4 girls from Texas A & M spent the week with us. They were members of the Aggies Reaching Out 2010 program, where they mentored at a disadvantaged class of 8th graders, who will be attending high school next fall. What a great program it is and we're proud of the University and these girls for setting examples for younger students. Hopefully, the young students will be more interested in following their path - graduate from High School and go on to higher education. We have Cassandra Hug, a Sophomore from Orange, Tricia Oliver, a Senior from San Antonio, Brooke West, a Junior from San Antonio and Sheila Umatiya, a Junior from Sugarland. We had a fun hamburger and pool party on Tuesday night and Patrick, his friend Seth, Elizabeth, Jay and Chelsea came over.
Girlfriends Visit

Carol Weatherall, Jan Lamb and Peg Towers from Beaumont came for a 3 day visit. Here we are getting ready to embark on an all day tour of the city. We toured CC A & M, drove down Ocean Drive, saw 1 water kite (the International Water Kite Competition was grounded because of lack of wind), ate lunch at the Art Center and viewed the art, saw the Annual Boat Show from the vantage point of the Town Club, went over the Harbor Bridge to see the Lexington and Texas State Aquarium and a view of Whataburger Field, the baseball stadium. Mexican dinner at Kiko's topped off our day. (Bet you youngsters couldn't have kept up with us!)

On Sunday, we went to the beach. Here we are enjoying our sodas in the shade of the Holiday Inn deck.

John told us to "kick" and only Nancy ignores his instruction.

John and his "harem".

Tim's Surprise Birthday Party

Chelsea makes Tim a Strawberry Cheesecake with 25 sparkling candles.

Tim and Chelsea usually drink coffee on their front porch in San Antonio on Saturday morning. At 10:00 am, we drive up. We can see the look on Tim's face as he realizes that we have come to see him. Then, his folks, Joe and Patrick arrive. They had spent the night with Joe in his new apartment and Tim doesn't even know they are in town. Later, his uncle Timmy and friend Dee arrive from Rockport. Then his cousin Reilly arrives from her dorm at UTSA, his good A & M buddy and girlfriend show up and later their friend, Joseph, from Austin comes in. (9 dogs also attend!!!) Here is their fireplace with the purple painted walls and white trim.

Their Dining Room with sponged painted walls and animal hanging that Chelsea got in Europe on her first trip and an antique baby high chair they bought at a garage sale.

Tim built this cabinet and book case. They plan to add doors to the base cabinets.

The original sink has new fixtures, the wall tile is painted white and walls are now blue.

This tile is cleaned and the tub is refinished.

One end of the sun room, furnished with "hand me downs", hand made items and "road side pickups".

Chelsea assigns Elizabeth, Dee and me kitchen jobs as she makes a Sweet Potato Shepard Pie. She had already made a great, unusual soup and Irish bread (picture below). (No fast food or easy spaghetti for this gal!)

John enjoys his grandfathers chair, which we had given to Tim.

Tim, Joe and Reilly sit on the couch, which had been at the lake. Chelsea's neutral cover didn't have time to get tied up well. By the way, our old couch is now at Joe's apartment. (Guess, it never dies. It's only 45 years old.)

Patrick and Steve Irizarry and friend

Timmy and Dee are in this picture. Of course, Jay, Nancy and Joseph are also there, but didn't make the pictures!

The yummy cake

Patrick plays Happy Birthday while we all sing.

Chelsea surprises Tim as she sings and plays the guitar. The song was done by this group in Boston in 2007. (We were all there.) Chelsea contacted the writer/singer from info on the CD and finally got a copy of the song and permission to use it. Their expressions tell it all!
