John
was born September 7th in Gatesville, Texas. He was delivered by his
grandfather, Dr. Reb Brown, weighing in at 12 pounds (according to the
cotton scales).
Nancy was born on May 3rd in Waco, Texas, weighing at half John's weight. (The ratio continues to this day!)

Although we did not know each other, Nancy could have tap danced like Shirley
Temple to John's trumpet. We
met in High School, where we started going steady at the age of 16 and 14. Here
we are at John's Senior Prom, which was held at the Fish Pond Country Club.
John graduated from Texas A & M. Nancy attended Randolph-Macon Women's
College, Baylor University and
graduated from Lamar University. We
married Saturday night, May 29, 1954.

John
was a pilot for 3 years during the Cold War. He
flew BIG planes - the B36, for anyone who is into aviation history. We
moved to Beaumont and John went to work at the refinery of Magnolia Petroleum
Company,
which soon became Mobil Oil. He retired after 33 years as Superintendent of
Operations Engineering. Here
is a picture of some of his group. He has on the red shirt in the 2nd row.

We
both were active in community affairs. John was Campaign Chairman of the
United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County and later was President. He was also President of the
West Beaumont Rotary and the
A & M Club. He raised money for the Boy Scouts and our church, Trinity United
Methodist Church.
Nancy was Social Chairman of the Neches River Festival (the picture at the
right was at one of the zillion functions), President of the Women's
Association at the church and Church Women United (all dominations).
She was also President of the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae group, Vice-President,
etc. of the Junior League,
Vice-President and Treasurer of United Way and Chairman of the Allocations
Committee. She also served on the board of the YWCA, Mental Health
Association, Historic Landmark Commission and...
(Boring, isn't it!)
