New York City - June, 2008

John and Nancy arrive a day ahead of the family.  We eat lunch in this sidewalk cafe at South Side Seaport - one of our favorite spots.

The restaurant is in the original Fulton Market.

We do the Gray Line "Hop off - hop on" bus and go over to Brooklyn.  Here is John with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background.  We also took the bus tour at night with Jay.  He sat next to a girl from Ireland, who was in the USA for the first time.  The picture of the law office and Bail Bondsman is across the street from the old jail in Brooklyn.  The bars on the window show how much they trust the area!  Click HERE for slides of Brooklyn.

Nancy and Elizabeth (with Baxter) at Rockefeller Center

Elizabeth, Hannah, Patrick and Jay

We enjoyed Times Square, St. Patrick's Cathedral (note the beautiful stained glass windows), Central Park, and GREAT food.  Jay, John and Nancy ate at one of the famous Deli's.  How about the size of the sandwiches!  We ate one night at Bubba Gump's and answered all of the questions about the movie "Forest Gump" correctly.  In fact, we had some questions that even the waitress didn't know the answer!  When it comes to movies, the McGovern crew are experts!  We saw the Broadway play Gypsy and spotted Donald Trump in the lobby and leaving the play with a "cute young thing".  Elizabeth, Hannah, Andy and Patrick saw a play the next night.  Joe had friends from Corpus Christi, who were on a field trip to NY and he got to hang out with them.  Baxter got a workout as he rode the subway (Note the pictures of Grand Central Station) and walked in the Village, Soho and Central Park.  He even strolled into Saks Fifth Avenue.  The tower shown is made from an erector set.  It is a copy of the Rockefeller Tower.  (It had been shown on "Good Morning America" a few days before.)

Our hotels were in the Murray Hill section and we loved them and the location. (Lexington and 37 & 39th)  They were suites in Brownstones and we felt like native New Yorkers as we strolled over to the grocery shops on Third Avenue.  Click HERE for the pictures.
